With weeks and weeks of speculation the lower house is clear to approving the outgoing governor's proposed prohibition on indoor smoking. There has been a lot of tension between the Acting Gov. Richard Codey and the Assembly Democrats.
The Assembly Health Committee totally approved the legislation which is being dubbed as the New Jersey Smoke Free Air Act.
This would protect workers and the general public from second hand smoke.
Bars, Restaurants and all indoor public places except Cigar bars, tabacco retailers and Casino Floors it will be illegal to smoke.
Supporters, however, said the bill was an important way to protect thousands of servers, bartenders and other workers exposed to the harmful effects of those lighting up around them.
"This legislation is about preventing disease," William Tansey III, a cardiologist and board member of the American Heart Association, said before the health panel.
