Angel Oliva Sr., a savior of the cigar industry, was honored posthumously on April 19 in his adopted home of Ybor City, Florida, a section of Tampa. The day was officially designated Angel Oliva Sr. Day.


Eighteenth Street was renamed Angel Oliva Sr. Street in a ceremony attended by Oliva's family, including his sons John Oliva Sr. and Angel Oliva Jr.


The company Oliva founded in 1934, Oliva Tobacco Co., is one of the most highly regarded tobacco brokers in the world of premium cigars.
